The Wyandotte Health Foundation is dedicated to transforming communities by supporting initiatives that address Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and trauma.
Research has shown a direct link between childhood trauma and risky behaviors in adolescents, and the long-term detrimental impact on health outcomes in adulthood. Individuals with high ACE scores are more likely to face issues such as cardiovascular disease, suicide attempts, substance dependence, and lower educational attainment.
Recognizing the long-term impact, in 2016, our Board of Directors committed to investing in reducing traumatic incidences and supporting interventions for families with high ACE scores. This strategic approach positions us to be at the forefront of improving health outcomes from one generation to the next. Together, we can break the cycle of adversity, fostering resilience and creating a legacy of improved health for underresourced communities.
The Wyandotte Health Foundation is committed to strengthening the primary care clinic system in Wyandotte County, cultivating a community where every individual has access to affordable, accessible, and high-quality healthcare.
Through strategic investments in core operations and capacity building, we empower primary care clinics to serve the diverse residents of Wyandotte County, including those who are underinsured or uninsured. Many individuals in underresourced communities face barriers to obtaining recommended healthcare services, including essential screenings. This is often due to the absence of a primary care provider, lack of healthcare coverage, or geographical limitations.
Our approach is anchored in the fundamental belief that everyone is entitled to comprehensive, people-centered, trauma-informed, and equitable healthcare services. By supporting clinics in overcoming the disparities faced by our community, we aim to create lasting impact and ensure that every resident of Wyandotte County can access the care and support they need for a healthier future.
